Chickpea Growers See Bid WarsVANCOUVER - Sep 22/06 - SNS -- Chickpea markets continue to gather momentum during the past week, driven by good demand and reluctant grower selling. This was most evident in Canada and Australia, where desi chickpea markets posted solid gains on the week in the face of steady buying from the Indian subcontinent. This was the case even though Australia's desi chickpea harvest is forecast to more than double from 115,500 to 246,850 metric tons (MT). Growers are reacting to good movement and strongly competitive prices resulting from the failure of winter or rabi season crops in Pakistan and India earlier in the year.
