France's 2006-07 Pea Season Starts SlowVANCOUVER - Sep 14/06 - SNS -- French field pea exports started the 2006-07 marketing campaign by posting a modest decline from year earlier levels, according to data available from the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP). There is no surprise in the change because field pea production in France continues to slide, forcing a reduction in export sales activity and the replacement of feed peas with other ingredients in livestock feed formulations in the country. This year's harvest is estimated at 1.153 million metric tons (MT) from 262,000 hectares, compared to 1.355 million from 326,000 hectares last year; and 1.89 million from 424,000 hectares in the year 2000.
