Total Sugarcane and Beet Output RisingWASHINGTON - Sep 12/02 - SNS -- Total production of sugarcane and beets is expected to be up over last year as declines in cane production are offset by solid increases in sugar beet output, according to the latest data compiled by the USDA. Sugarcane production is forecast at 35.3 million tons, 1% below the August 1 forecast but 2% above last year. Sugarcane growers intend to harvest 1.02 million acres for sugar and seed during the 2002 crop year, up fractionally from last month but slightly lower than last year's final harvested acres.
