Few Changes in BirdseedsVANCOUVER - Sep 8/06 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets were little changed in light trading during the past week. Sunflower markets were steady against the fact this year's harvest will be down sharply from last year. Oil-type sunflower seed markets are also being supported by rising international demand for biofuels, including vegetable oil in diesel and grain ethanol in gasoline. Western nations are working hard to end their dependence on imported oil in an effort to reduce the Middle East's geopolitical significance. This year's canaryseed harvest is well underway in Saskatchewan, where the harvest of all crops has been moving forward at a rapid pace. This is improving supplies on spot markets, moderating prices.
