Dairy Product Output SlipsWASHINGTON - Sep 1/06 - SNS -- The volume of dairy products manufactured in the United States slipped below month earlier levels in July, though advancing on the year, according to the USDA. Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 768 million pounds, 3.9% above July 2005 but 3.3% below June 2006. Italian type cheese production totaled 318 million pounds, 5.0% above July 2005 but 2.4% below June 2006. American type cheese production totaled 329 million pounds, 4.0% above July 2005 but 2.5% below June 2006. Butter production was 92.7 million pounds, 3.3% below July 2005 and 8.0% below June 2006. Frozen dessert: (comparisons with July 2005): Ice cream, Regular (hard) --- 85.4 million gallons, down 1.8%; Ice cream, Lowfat (total) --- 36.9 million gallons, up slightly; Ice cream, Nonfat (hard) --- 1.38 million gallons, down 37.1%; Sherbet (hard) --- 5.27 million gallons, down 2.9%; and Frozen Yogurt (total) --- 6.26 million gallons, up 6.7%.
