Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/06 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Cardwell and Sandy
Cape.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday night and Saturday
A few showers over the south-east. Rain areas about the Central Coast and the
adjacent inland contracting northwards onto the north tropical coast and
Herbert-Burdekin coast on Saturday and weakening. A few showers along the
remaining east coast and adjacent inland clearing from the far southern coast
during Saturday morning. Fine in the west. Moderate to fresh SE/E winds, strong
at times along the coast between Cardwell and Sandy Cape, easing during
Saturday.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The upper low over the southern tropics inland Qld will continue to move
northwards over the next few days and finally decay over Cape York Peninsula
during Sunday. Consequently, any rain areas over the north-east tropics will
break to a few showers on Sunday. The large high over the Tasman Sea will move
only slowly eastwards and weaken further over the weekend as a frontal system
moves into south-eastern Australia and across the Tasman Sea during this period.
With the approach of the front, the ridge from the high will move northwards
resulting in showers contracting northwards and winds easing from the south and
shifting NE/N inland. Any stream showers will become confined to north of
Cardwell by Sunday afternoon. Some clearing showers will occur along the central
coast during Sunday morning while over the southern tropical inland over the
weekend some early drizzle and low cloud will occur.
The next upper trough and surface front will move across south-eastern Australia
during Sunday and Monday. These systems will produce some showers about the
central and southern inland and the south-east inland on Sunday and then across
the south-east coast and much of the inland on Tuesday. A weak high will then
migrate across NSW and the Tasman Sea in the wake of the front. A new front will
move quickly across much of the state on Tuesday clearing off the southern and
central coasts on Wednesday. A few showers will occur ahead of this front over
eastern districts. In the wake of this front very dry air will spread across
much of the state and result in cooler conditions at night.
