Little Change in Birdseed MarketsVANCOUVER - Aug 25/06 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredients markets were mainly unchanged on the week amid light end user buying interest. Canadian canaryseed markets were steady at week's end, despite worries about the amount of crop which may have been damaged by a large hail storm in Saskatchewan at week's end. Total hail claims are up sharply over last year for all crops. The Statistics Canada crop production estimates point to a 123,500 MT harvest for canaryseed, down from 229,200 MT last year. Canadian traders do not expect any shortage of canaryseed over the coming months, but growers are already proving unwilling participants, with the result markets have a firm undertone.
