Canada Expects 500,000 MT Fewer LentilsVANCOUVER - Aug 25/06 - SNS -- International lentil markets were little affected by the latest crop production estimates from Canada, which showed total output will drop almost 500,000 metric tons (MT) top 790,500 MT. All the reduction is in green lentils. Large green lentil output may drop around 500,000 MT to roughly 247,000 this year; while red lentil output jumps roughly 147,000 to 380,000 MT; small green slips 60,000 to around 143,000 MT; and output of all other classes sinks around 60,000 MT to 20,000. The change is reflected in markets, with green lentils rising well above last season's averages and reds starting the year down from year earlier levels, but significantly above the lows recorded between 2000 and 2002.
