Special Crop Output Sinks 18%VANCOUVER - Aug 25/06 - SNS -- Pulse and other specialty crop production levels in Canada will be down almost 18% from last year after an unusually hot and dry summer both stressed crops and accelerated development, judging from Statistics Canada's first crop production estimate for 2006. Output for the sector is currently estimated at 4.445 million metric tons (MT), the fourth largest specialty crop harvest in Canadian history, but down sharply from last year's record 5.343 million MT result.
