Australian Livestock Auction Action ImprovesSYDNEY - Aug 25/06 - SNS -- Livestock sold through online auctions managed by AuctionsPlus Pty Ltd rose during the past week against cattle offerings offsets declines in sheep and lambs. Throughput for the week totalled 22,756 sheep and lambs, down from 24,536 head the previous week. The number of cattle put through the company's auctions totalled 5,874, compared to 2,844 last week. "The weeks' sheep trading saw the most significant price falls witnessed for many months, and is only to be expected given recent events and worsening seasonal conditions," AuctionsPlus's Dean Lemmich said. "Reports of still too many old lambs in the system were predictable, given the number of store lambs purchased earlier this year and the slower finishing time due to feed conditions."
