Solid Jump In Frozen Meat Stocks
WASHINGTON - Aug 22/06 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers rose 32 million pounds in July to 897 million pounds, up 5% from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage.
Frozen pork supplies rose 1% during the month to 412 million pounds, down 8% from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 29% from last month at 37.3 million pounds and down 26% from last year.
Supplies of beef rose from year earlier levels, rising 21% to 466.8 million pounds, up around 30 million pounds from the previous month.
