Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 8/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A Gale warning is current for all Victorian coastal waters and for Port Phillip
and Western Port and the Gippsland Lakes. A land wind warning has been issued
for Western, Central, Alpine and Gippsland districts. 
Weather Pattern
A cold front will reach southwest Victoria tonight and move across the State
early Monday. The rather cold squally and unstable southwesterly airstream
following the change will not moderate until mid week when a high pressure
system approaches from the Bight.
Victoria
Tonight and Monday: Isolated showers in the southwest becoming more widespread
tonight and extending to mainly southern and mountain areas tomorrow. Local hail
and thunder is likely in the south with snowfalls developing on the ranges.
Strengthening northwesterly wind shifting colder squally west to southwesterly
from the west. 
UV Index: 5 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Tuesday:   Scattered showers mainly southern and mountain areas. Local hail in
the south with snow on the ranges. Cold gusty winds.
Wednesday: Isolated showers in the south. Inland frosts. Cool.
Thursday:  Fine. Early inland frosts. Cool to mild.
Forecast for Melbourne
Tonight and Monday
Fine tonight. Showers developing early morning and persisting during the day.
Northwesterly winds strengthening and shifting squally west to southwesterly
during the day.

Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tonight and Monday: Northwesterly wind of 20 to 30 knots shifting west to
southwest at 25 to 35 knots during the morning. Stronger squalls in showers.
Waves 1 to 2 metres rising 2 to 2.5 metres. A gale warning has been issued.
Tuesday:   Southwesterly wind of 20 to 30 knots easing to around 15 knots by the
evening.
Wednesday: Southwest winds to 15 knots becoming variable later.
Thursday:  Variable to 15 knots with afternoon seabreezes. 
Headline Melbourne: Squally showers.
