Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 7/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Fine over most of the state. Cloudy over the northern tropics with a few showers near the east coast. A few clearing showers early this morning in the Wide Bay area. Isolated afternoon showers in the central inland. Moderate southerly winds over the interior spreading to the south coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Most of Queensland will remain fine well into next week. Cloudy conditions are expected to extend over the northern tropics over the next day or so but shower activity is likely to be limited to the east coast. On Monday, another surface trough is expected to move through the southeast but the atmosphere is likely to be too dry to produce anything apart from isolated showers in the central inland. High cloud is expected to thicken in the Channel Country on Monday due to a jetstream but no significant rain is expected. A high is expected to strengthen as it moves towards southeast Australia mid-week. However, the development of a trough and/or low in the Tasman Sea will delay any significant onshore flow from developing along the east coast so that fine conditions are likely to continue over the state until late in the week when winds turn northerly over the west ahead of the next trough. It will be cool to cold overnight over southern districts under clear dry skies. It will be very warm to hot over central and northern districts and then over western districts when the winds turn northerly. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
