Chickpeas Remain UnchangedVANCOUVER - Aug 11/06 - SNS -- It is the "same old, same old" story for chickpeas, with prices little changed as supplies remain just behind the needs of the market. The USDA confirmed chickpea seeded area in the United States, saying 139,900 acres of all classes of chickpeas were sown this year, up from 89,800 last year, but still shy of the recent record of 148,700 acres set in 2001. Breaking out seeded area by size, the USDA said 125,600 acres of large caliber kabuli chickpeas were sown this year, up from 79,300 acres last year; while small caliber chickpea area rose from 10,500 acres last year to just 14,300 acres this year.
