Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 6/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A Gale warning is current for all Victorian coastal waters and for Port Phillip
and Western Port. A strong wind warning is current for the Gippsland Lakes. 
Weather Pattern
A cold front over Victoria will move to the Tasman Sea today. Another front will
move across the State later Sunday into Monday. A high pressure system will
develop over the Bight on Monday before moving towards Victoria on Tuesday. 
Victoria
Saturday:  Scattered showers, mainly over southern and mountain areas, with
local hail and thunder near the coast. Fresh to strong and squally north to
northwesterly wind gradually shifting cooler, gusty west to southwesterly.
UV Index: 4 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Sunday:    Isolated showers, mostly about the coast, increasing in the southwest
later. Cool to mild.
Monday:    Showers extending from the west, mainly on and south of the ranges,
with isolated hail. Highland snowfalls developing. Windy. Colder. 
Tuesday:   Scattered showers contracting to southern and mountain areas. Local
hail in the south clearing. Highland snowfalls. Cold wind moderating.
Forecast for Melbourne
Saturday
Cloudy periods with a few showers. Squally north to northwest wind shifting
gusty west to southwesterly in the early afternoon.

Tuesday
Showers easing. Local hail.                 Min 8    Max 15
Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Mainly fine. Becoming milder.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Saturday:  Northwesterly wind of 20 to 30 knots shifting west to southwesterly
at 25 to 35 knots by early afternoon before easing to around 20 knots tonight.
Stronger squalls near showers. Waves 1 to 2 metres rising to 2 to 2.5 metres
this afternoon before decreasing to around 1 metre tonight. A gale warning is
current.
Sunday:    Westerly wind easing to 10 to 15 knots and tending northwesterly
during the morning, then  increasing to 20 to 25 knots later.
Monday:    Northwest wind 20 to 30 knots shifting west to southwest at 25 to 30
knots during the morning.  
Tuesday:   Southwest winds 20 to 30 knots easing to around 15 knots by the
evening.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers. Windy.
Headline Victoria:  Scattered showers, mainly on and south of ranges. Windy.
