Papaya Output Slips in JulyWASHINGTON - Aug 11/06 - SNS -- Hawaii fresh papaya utilization is estimated at 1.81 million pounds for July, down 6% from last month and 34% lower than a year ago, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates. Area in crop totaled 1,755 acres, up 1% from last month but 32% below July 2005. Harvested area totaled 1,510 acres, unchanged from July but 4% lower than the same month last year. Warm weather with light showers prevailed in most papaya growing areas. Harvest was active and new plantings continued to make good progress.
