Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 6/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A Gale warning is current for all Victorian coastal waters.  Strong wind
warnings are current for Port Phillip and Western Port and for the Gippsland
Lakes. 
Weather Pattern
Windy conditions will continue in Victoria for the next few days but moderation
is expected early next week. A cold front will cross the state overnight and
Saturday followed by another late Sunday into Monday. A ridge of high pressure
will then develop over the Bight on Monday with a high centre moving near
Victoria by late Tuesday. 
Victoria
Tonight and Saturday: Scattered showers extending from the southwest overnight,
mainly on and south of the ranges. Strengthening northwest winds shifting
cooler, gusty west to southwest.
UV Index: 4 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Sunday:    Isolated showers, mostly contracting to the coast, and in the
southwest later. Cool to mild.
Monday:    Scattered showers extending from the west, mainly on and south of the
ranges with isolated hail. Highland snowfalls developing. Windy. Becoming
colder. 
Tuesday:   Scattered showers contracting to southern and mountain areas. Local
hail in the south clearing. Highland snowfalls. Cold wind moderating.

Tonight and Saturday
Fine tonight. Cloudy periods with a few showers developing during the morning as
fresh to strong and gusty northwest winds shift west to southwest.

Showers easing later. Local hail.           Min 8    Max 15
Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Mainly fine. Becoming milder.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tonight and Saturday: Northwest winds increasing to 20 to 30 knots tonight then
tending west to southwesterly at similar strength by early afternoon. Waves 1 to
2 metres. A strong wind warning is current.
Sunday:    Westerly winds easing to 10 to 15 knots during the morning, then
shifting northwesterly in the afternoon and increasing to around 20 knots by
evening.
Monday:    Northwest winds increasing to 20 to 30 knots then shifting southwest
at 25 to 30 knots during the morning.  
Tuesday:   Southwest winds 20 to 30 knots easing to around 15 knots by the
evening.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers developing.
Headline Victoria:  Scattered showers extending from the southwest. Windy.
