Chickpeas Supplies Open Up
VANCOUVER - Aug 4/06 - SNS -- Chickpea markets continued their decline into new crop pricing in North America, with processors in California and other parts of the United States now quoting new crop product.
Desi chickpeas were helped by news the Indian government is tendering for 15,000 metric tons (MT) for delivery in the next three month period.
The tender was issued by the government controlled trading company, MMTC Ltd. Offers are due on August 10 and must be valid until August 20 and must be in multiples of 1,000 MT. The tender number is MMTC-PULSES-IMP-2006-07-02.
MMTC tendered for pulses last month, but offers were allowed to lapse because prices were deemed higher than those prevailing on domestic markets.
