North American Bean Condition SlippingVANCOUVER - Aug 4/06 - SNS -- The condition of dry edible beans grown in the United States is declining in parts of the growing area in response to unusually hot weather. This is having a significant impact on the thinking of pinto bean processors, who lifted asking prices 75 cents to a dollar bag during the week, contributing to an 11 point gain in the spot index for U.S. beans to 781. Last week started with 71% of the North Dakota's bean crop rated fair or worse, compared to 69% the previous week. It is dangerous to try to correlate the crop condition with final yields as condition is a subjective, and sometimes emotional response to the overall situation.
