Birdseeds Firm on Production WorriesVANCOUVER - Aug 4/06 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week on a firm note against production concerns in both Canada and the United States. Neither millet nor canaryseed like excessively hot and dry conditions and both crops have been getting that kind of weather in spades in recent weeks. Timely rains could turn the situation around, but markets are watchful of the developing situation. White proso millet ended the week with modest week over week gains; while canaryseed was little changed but firm. Confection sunflower markets are making the transition from spot to new crop pricing, with spot prices jumping to new crop levels for both large and small confectionary sunflower seed.
