Australian Cattle Slaughter Up In QuarterSYDNEY - Aug 2/06 - SNS -- Cattle slaughter activity posted its third consecutive quarterly increase in the second quarter of this year, totalling 2.015 million head, according to the latest slaughter data available for Australia. Discussing the numbers, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said, the trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 1.0 million. This was the highest figure recorded since June 2005. The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 1.6 million. This was the highest figure recorded since September 2000. The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 21,000 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since June 2005. The trend estimate for lamb production rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 33,000 tonnes.
