Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 4/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
No warnings.
STATE FORECAST
for Thursday night and Friday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers on northern Cape York Peninsula
and developing on Friday along the tropical east coast. Cloudy over the far
southern inland with isolated showers or thunderstorms contracting east on
Friday. Moderate to fresh N'ly winds over most of the interior and the south
coast. A high to very high fire danger over the central and southern interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Fine weather will continue across most of Queensland for the rest of the week
including the weekend. In general, days will be very warm to hot over most of
the interior before cooling on Saturday as dry S'ly winds spread across the
south of the state.
An area of high pressure will remain anchored near new Zealand extending a ridge
to the Queensland tropical coast. The upper trough system moving west across the
Coral Sea is expected to bring some showers to the tropical east coast and Cape
York Peninsula on Friday and Saturday.
The trough moving across central Australia will increase cloud over southwest
Queensland tonight, producing patchy light rain or showers and isolated
thunderstorms. The trough will then contract the cloud and weather into the
southeast of the state by Saturday before clearing seawards overnight. However
rainfall is likely to be light and patchy.
On Sunday nearly all of Queensland can expect dry weather in the wake of the
southern trough. Showers along the tropical east coast should contract to
northern Cape York Peninsula.
