Year Over Year Gains in Cheese OutputWASHINGTON - Sep 4/02 - SNS -- There was a general increase in the quantity of dairy products manufactured in the United States during July, judging from the latest output data compiled by the USDA. Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 670 million pounds, 0.8% below July 2001 and 2.7% below June 2002. American type cheese production totaled 302 million pounds, 3.0% above July 2001 but 2.6% below June 2002. Butter production was 93.9 million pounds in July, 11.5% above July 2001 but 3.1% below June 2002. Frozen dessert: (comparisons with July 2001): Ice cream, Regular (hard) --- 82.6 million gallons, up 0.6%; Ice cream, Lowfat (total) --- 39.4 million gallons, down 5.0%; Ice cream, Nonfat (hard) --- 1.49 million gallons, down 9.7%; Sherbet (hard) --- 5.52 million gallons, up 9.6%; and Frozen Yogurt (total) --- 7.39 million gallons, up slightly.
