Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 4/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
Gale warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters west of Wilsons
Promontory.
Strong wind warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory and for Port Phillip and Western Port. 
Weather Pattern
The windy conditions will continue during the forecast period as cold fronts
continue to sweep through the State and the high pressure ridge remains over the
centre of the continent. The first cold front will approach western Victoria
late on Thursday before moving through the State early on Friday. Further cold
fronts will affect Victoria late on Friday and during Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday:  Isolated showers in the southwest but a fine day elsewhere after
local early fogs in the northeast.  A cool to mild day, mainly sunny in the
north and far east but cloud elsewhere. Showers becoming more widespread in the
southwest towards evening with the chance of thunderstorms.   
UV Index: 4 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Friday:    Scattered showers, mainly on and south of the ranges. Cool. Windy.
Saturday:  Scattered showers, mainly on and south of the ranges. Cool. Windy.
Sunday:    Scattered showers, mainly on and south of the ranges. Cool. Windy.

Fine.  A mainly sunny day with freshening north to northwest wind.

Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Thursday:  Northwest to northerly winds at 10 to 15 knots, freshening to 15 to
20 knots in the morning, then strengthening to 20 to 30 knots later in the day.
Waves to 1 metre rising to 1 to 2 metres late in the day.
Friday:    Early westerly change at 15 to 25 knots, then wind tending
northwesterly at 15 to 25 knots. 
Saturday:  North to northwesterly winds 20 to 30 knots shifting west to
southwesterly at 20 to 30 knots during the day.
Sunday:    Westerly winds of 20 to 30 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Fine.
