Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 3/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
Gale warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters west of Wilsons
Promontory.
Strong wind warnings are current for  Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory, Port Phillip and Western Port and the Gippsland Lakes. 
Weather Pattern
A cold front is moving across eastern Victoria this morning followed by another
front on Thursday night and Friday morning with yet another front to follow
overnight Friday into Saturday.
Victoria
Wednesday: Scattered showers contracting to southern and mountain areas during
the day, mostly over the ranges and the southwest. Fresh to strong northwest to
westerly winds gradually easing during the day. A cool to mild day. 
UV Index: 5 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Thursday:  Fine apart from isolated showers near the coast and later in the
west. Cool to mild.
Friday:    Showers mainly on and south of the ranges. Cool.
Saturday:  Showers mainly on and south of the ranges. Cool.
Forecast for Melbourne
Wednesday
Cloudy at times with a shower or two. Fresh gusty northwest to westerly winds
moderating later.

Mainly fine.                                Min 9    Max 18
Friday
Few showers. Windy.                         Min 10    Max 17
Saturday
Few showers. Windy.                         Min 9    Max 17
Trend for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Showery periods. Cool to cold.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Wednesday: Northwest to westerly winds of 20 to 30 knots with locally stronger
gusts easing to 15 to 20 knots tonight. Waves of 1 to 2 metres abating to around
1 metre tonight.  A strong wind warning is current.
Thursday:  North to northwesterly winds around 15 to 20 knots strengthening to
20 to 30 knots later in the day. Waves about one metre rising to 1 to 2 metres.
Friday:    North to northwesterly winds 20 to 30 knots. 
Saturday:  North to northwesterly winds 20 to 25 knots shifting west to
southwesterly at 20 to 25 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Mostly fine.
