Australian Livestock Auction Action JumpsSYDNEY - Jul 15/06 - SNS -- Livestock sold through online auctions managed by AuctionsPlus Pty Ltd rose during the past week on generally improved offerings. Throughput for the week totalled 21,759 sheep and lambs, up from 11,870 head the previous week. The number of cattle put through the company's auctions totalled 2,287, compared to 1,655 last week. "Throughputs improved to a good winter level this week," AuctionsPlus's Dean Lemmich said. "Oil has been the big news all week and many old hands seem to be getting the jitters as the far reaching consequences, if they materialize, are quite enormous. "A crisis such as this could grow to be, shows clearly the weaknesses in our political system. Some initiatives 10 years ago into alternate fuels instead of pure tax collection could have seen Australia quarantined to a large extent from what may lie ahead."
