Increased Turkey Hatchery ActivityWASHINGTON - Jul 13/06 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity increased above year earlier levels in June, reports the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on July 1, 2006, in the United States totaled 32.2 million, up 5% from July 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were up 2% from the June 1, 2006 total of 31.6 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up slightly at 5,017,000 eggs; West North Central up 2% at 11,453,000; North and South Atlantic up 16% at 10,118,000; and South Central and West combined, up 1% at 5,596,000 eggs in incubators. The 25.7 million poults placed during June 2006 in the United States were up 6% from the number placed during the same month a year ago. Placements were 2% above May 2006.
