U.S. Growers Cut Lentil AreaWASHINGTON - Jul 12/06 - SNS -- Lentil markets were surprised to see the USDA report growers there planted 6.7% fewer lentils this year instead of boosting seeded area to take advantage of minimum price guarantees available under the U.S. Farm Program. Most of the lentils grown in the United States are regular or smaller caliber green. Spanish brown or Pardina lentils are popular in some crop districts, but interest in red lentils remains muted.
