Ukraine Seeded Area SlipsKIEV - Jul 11/06 - APK -- In 2006 Ukrainian farmers sowed grains and legumes (winter and spring) on 14.66 million hectares area, down 2.3% from 2005, informed State Statistics Committee. According to the final data, area under wheat totaled 5.59 million hectares (in 2005-6.66 million hectares), rye - 377,100 hectares (against 623,400 hectares). In 2006 areas planted with millet (from 140,500 hectares to 135,700 hectares) and buckwheat (from 425,700 hectares to 393,300 hectares) also reduced. At the same time, area under barley increased by 18% to 5.3 million hectares, maize - by 10.8% to 1.9 million hectares, oats - by 3.5% to 484,300 hectares. State Statistics Committee fixed the significant growth of sowing areas under sorghum by 61.8% to 36,900 hectares.
