Mixed Finish for Field PeasVANCOUVER - Jul 7/06 - SNS -- International field pea markets ended the week's trading on a mixed note, with exporters keen to start selling into new crop shipping positions. They were encouraged by rising demands by Chambers of Commerce in India for the government to tender for pulses to immediate boost supplies on domestic markets in hope of cooling down prices. Wholesale prices indexes for the week ending June 24 show India's food index now stands at 208.8, up 0.1 points on the week. Contributing to the rise was a 1% advance in wholesale prices for moong and gram. Exporters are also encouraged by the slow advance of this year's monsoon and the fact rainfall has so far been below average. This points to lower average yields for the country's kharif or monsoon season crops, which they hope will translate into stronger import demand.
