Little Change in ChickpeasVANCOUVER - Jul 7/06 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were little changed in light trading during the past week, even though some processors in Canada expressed worries about the status of crops in southern crop districts. Hot and dry conditions are stressing crops in some areas, generating worries about yield potential for all classes of chickpea and the size potential for regular kabuli chickpeas. Desi and small caliber chickpea growers and processors were encouraged by the slow advance of this year's monsoon In India and the fact rainfall has so far been below average. This points to lower average yields for the country's kharif or monsoon season crops, which they hope will translate into stronger import demand.
