Malaysian CPO Output Rises in May
KUALA LUMPUR - Jul 6/06 - SNS -- Crude palm oil (CPO) production rose 5.7% in May to reach 1.4 million metric tons (MT), according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
While output in the Peninsula Malaysia increased by 6.5%, East Malaysia's production rose 5.7%. Compared to May 2005, output during May 2006 was 7% higher.
CPO output is experiencing a seasonal uptrend and the palms are also recovering strongly from the biological stress experienced during the October 2005 through February 2006 period, noted the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. CPO output should end up at 4.1 million MT in the May-June quarter and 4.5 million MT in the Jul-Sep quarter.
