Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jul 1/06 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Saturday night and Sunday Fine over most of the state. Only isolated showers along the north tropical east coast. Cold overnight in the south with some early frost over the southern inland. Moderate SE winds in the tropics. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The next surface and upper trough system is expected to move across southeast Australia during the weekend before reaching southern Queensland early Monday. Most computer forecast models are indicating that this upper trough will slowly cross the south of the state during Monday, passing over the east coast during Tuesday. The trough will destabilise the southeast corner of the state, but due to the dryness of the low levels should result in relatively high-based cloud over the southeast interior. Isolated showers are likely with this cloud, with the slight possibility of isolated thunderstorms nearer the New South Wales border. Closer to the east coast, moister S to SE winds directed by a new large high moving east from the Bight combined with the passage of the upper trough should bring scattered showers south of about Bundaberg. More isolated coastal showers are possible further north, merging with the showers lingering about the north tropical coast. In the wake of the upper trough on Wednesday, mostly fine conditions should return to the state. The high will now be situated over the Tasman Sea should bring only isolated showers to the exposed east coast in the moderate to fresh SE airstream. Another surface and upper trough system is expected to pass over southern and southeast Queensland on Thursday and Friday. This may again result in more frequent showers along the exposed southern coasts as a new large high moves east from the Bight. Remaining fine over the interior. Temperatures will be close to average over most of Queensland during the next few days, though milder at night in the east and southeast on Monday and Tuesday --- STAT News Service
