Safflower Seedings Jump 34%WASHINGTON - Jun 30/06 - SNS -- Safflower area in the United States increased 34% from 2005, to 221,000 acres in 2006, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2006. Area for harvest is forecast at 212,000 acres, up 33% from last year. Despite heavy spring rains early in the planting season that caused delays for about six weeks in some areas, California producers planted 75,000 acres of safflower, 47% more than last year.
