U.S. Turkey hatchery AdvancesWASHINGTON - Jun 14/06 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity rose above year earlier levels in the United States in May, according to the latest USDA data. Turkey eggs in incubators on June 1, 2006, in the United States totaled 31.6 million, up 4% from June 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were up slightly from the May 1, 2006 total of 31.6 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 3% at 4,990,000 eggs; West North Central up 5% at 11,928,000; North and South Atlantic up 12% at 10,180,000; and South Central and West combined, down 11% at 4,528,000 eggs in incubators. The 25.3 million poults placed during May 2006 in the United States were up 6% from the number placed during the same month a year ago. Placements were also 6% above April 2006.
