Sunseeds Stagnate in EuropeWASHINGTON - Jun 13/06 - SNS -- European production of sunflower seed is stagnating because of decreased area in France and Spain, according to a recent report from the U.S. agricultural attache for the region. The area devoted to sunflower is increasing in Hungary and Italy, but it may only offset the reduction in plantings elsewhere in the EU. The most important import sources are Romania and Bulgaria. Seeded area across Europe could expanded slightly this year from 1.017 million hectares last year to an estimated 2.062 million this year, bringing with it the chance production could expand from 3.724 million to 4 million metric tons (MT).
