Canada Ends 'Wait and See' Trade StanceVANCOUVER - Jun 9/06 - SNS -- The Canadian government no longer appears willing to "wait and see" how successful U.S. trade negotiators are at getting preferential access for their country's products at the expense of Canadian. In 1996, Canada inked a free trade agreement with Chile and followed up with a 2001 deal with Costa Rica. Since that time nothing was done and no serious negotiations undertaken. Meanwhile, the United States Congress has approved seven deals in 12 countries since 2001, garnering preferential access for U.S. pulses in major Canadian markets such as Colombia.
