Australian Sees Strong 2006-07 MarketsSYDNEY - Jun 5/06 - SNS -- The Australian wheat market board, AWB Ltd., expects stronger wheat markets in 2006-07 than for the 2005 pools, reflected in a strong opening estimate for the coming season's returns to growers. AWB International General Manager, Sarah Scales, said the Estimated Pool Returns (EPR) for the majority of new season pay grades were above those from last season, reflecting the stronger wheat market outlook for the 2007 shipping year. The 2006-07 EPR for benchmark APW is AUD$222 per metric ton (MT) (at 10.5% protein). This is above the previously quoted range for 2006-07 of $210 to $220 MT, and well above the 2005-06 EPR of $188 MT (at 10% protein). Scales said the price spread between grades was also indicative of the current international market, where there remained large premiums for hard or higher protein wheat over softer wheat types.
