Myanmar's Pulse Exports Soar in MarchVANCOUVER - May 31/06 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar posted a massive recovery during March, with export clearances jumping 62.5% from February and 78% above year earlier levels to reach 127,220 metric tons (MT). This is the second best performance for March of the current five-year period and almost doubled clearances for the first quarter of the 2006 calendar year to 263,099 MT, up almost 103,000 MT from last year, but down nearly 12,600 from the same quarter in 2004. Mung beans accounted for 41% of the total exports, followed by Matpe (40%) and Toor Whole (11%), respectively. India remains the most important buyer of Myanmar's pulses, accounting for 60% of all exports recorded in March, while China accounted for 31%. Local traders are hopeful March marks India's return as a large volume buyer because of a smaller than expected rabi season crop there.
