No Change in Farm Expenses in MayWASHINGTON - May 31/06 - SNS -- There was no change in the cost of farming in the United States in May, according to the USDA's preliminary May Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW). It stood at 146% of the 1990-92 average. The index is unchanged from April but 6 points (4.3 percent) above May 2005. Lower prices in May for feeder cattle, nitrogen fertilizers, feeder pigs, and LP gas offset higher prices for diesel fuel, gasoline, hay & forages, and feed grains.
