Biodiesel Plants Banned in Western AustralianSYDNEY - May 31/06 - SNS -- Two plants which have been widely promoted on the internet as being a good course of biodiesel oil have been banned by the Department of Agriculture and Food in the state of Western Australia. Bellyache bush (Jatropha gossypilfolia) and physic nut (Jatropha curcasa) were already on the Declared List, but their status has now been upgraded to ensure a state-wide ban. Both plants are closely related to castor oil bush, and similar in appearance. Director of Invasive Species with the Department of Agriculture and Food Damian Collopy said both plants were invasive and highly toxic to both humans and livestock. "Bellyache bush is the more invasive of the two, and is already a serious problem to the Queensland cattle industry," Collopy said. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
