Food Peas End on Firm NoteVANCOUVER - May 26/06 - SNS -- Field peas ended the week's trading on a firm note against steady export demand and tightening stocks in major producing areas in the world. Markets will not have fresh stocks until France starts its harvest. That will be followed by other European suppliers, the United States and finally Canada. While green pea markets ended the week on a mainly steady note, yellow peas continue to strengthen, with grower bids in western Canada rising despite a stronger Canadian dollar. Markets in the United States were helped by the latest USDA PL-480 food aid tender invitation, which was amended Friday to include a request for 750 metric tons (MT) of whole green and/or yellow peas, with that part of the tender likely to be covered by green peas.
