Campbell's Q3 Profits IncreaseNEW YORK - May 22/06 - SNS -- Campbell Soup Company reported net earnings of U.S. $166 million on net sales of $1,836 million during the third quarter ending April 30, compared to net earnings of $146 million on sales of $1,736 million during the same three month period of the previous fiscal year. This lifted net earnings for the first nine months of the current fiscal year to $722 million on sales of $6,227 million, compared a net of $611 million on sales of $6,050 million the previous fiscal year. Sales for U.S. Soup, Sauces and Beverages were $713 million, a 14% increase compared with a year ago. Operating earnings were $171 million compared to $152 million in the year-ago period. U.S. soup sales for the quarter increased 15% compared with a year ago, with condensed soup sales up 11%, ready-to-serve soup sales up 17%, and broth sales up 30%. For the first nine months of fiscal 2006, total U.S. soup sales increased 4%, with condensed sales up 5%, ready-to-serve sales flat, and broth sales up 12%.
