Lentils Trying to Keep PaceVANCOUVER - May 19/06 - SNS -- New crop lentil markets continued to improve through the past week, helped by expectations of a sharp drop in green lentils seedings in Canada. Lentil markets are also being forced higher to compete with income expectations from growing other crops. Optimism is building over canola price prospects because of strong petroleum prices and Europe's preference for crushing canola to produce vegetable oil for bio-diesel use. More importantly, GM canola works in that application. Regular grain markets are also benefitting from a transformation from being just feed and food commodities to being part of the energy complex.
