Spanish Citrus Output DownWASHINGTON - May 9/06 - SNS -- Total citrus fruit production in Spain ended up at 5.28 million metric tons (MT) in 2005-06, down from 5.878 million MT the previous season, according to recent government estimates. Production of fresh sweet oranges dropped from 1.691 million to 2.26 million MT; while tangerine output dropped from 2.458 to 2.13 million MT; and lemons increased from 729,000 to 890,000 MT. Smaller crops forced a reduction in Spanish fresh fruit exports. Orange shipments will drop from 1.161 million MT in 2004-05 to an estimated 1 million MT this season; while tangerine exports slip from 1.535 to 1.46 million MT; and lemons advance from 360,000 to 410,000 MT.
