KCBT Trading Volume RecordKANSAS CITY - May 4/06 - SNS -- The Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) reports trading volume is up 57.8% so far this calendar year, with April seeing new volume records posted for the wheat futures contract, the wheat options contract and the exchange as a whole. A total of 483,398 contracts were traded at the exchange during April, setting a new record for the calendar month. This exceeds the previous April record of 310,387 contracts set in 2005 by 55.7%. A new record for the month of April was set in the hard red winter wheat futures contract, with 436,265 contracts trading, an increase of 51.0% over the previous record of 288,931 set last April. Hard red winter wheat options volume also set a new volume record for the month of April, with 45,238 contracts traded. This exceeds the previous record of 34,308 contracts for the month of April set in 2002 by 31.9%. Open interest continues to show increases compared to last year. Wheat futures open interest is up 115.8% and wheat options are up by 22.2%.
