Mixed Quality Results for 2005 SoybeansWINNIPEG - May 3/06 - SNS -- The Canadian Grain Commission's (CGC) 2005 harvest survey shows the Ontario top two grades of soybeans are well above their ten-year average for oil content but below their ten-year average for protein content. When compared to 2003, the most recent year for an Ontario survey, the 2005 average oil content of 22.6% is 2.6% higher while the average protein content of 40.6% is 2.1% lower. The few 2005 Quebec soybean samples tested had similar oil contents but slightly lower protein contents than the Ontario samples. When compared to 2003, the 2005 Manitoba average oil content of 20.2% is 2.4% lower while the average protein content of 39.9% is 0.7% higher. In 2004, neither of the Ontario or Manitoba surveys had top grade samples of Soybean, No.1 or No.2 Canada for testing. For the 2005 harvest survey, Manitoba soybeans were 1.4% lower than the 2005 Ontario soybeans in oil content and 0.7% lower in protein content.
