Field Pea Shipment Record ExpandedVANCOUVER - May 2/06 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exporters continue to set new shipping records, with more field peas leaving Canada in April that had happened at any time in the past, judging from data available from the Canadian Ports Clearance Association. Total field pea clearances through licensed terminals reporting to the association ended up at 176,591 metric tons (MT) at both Thunder Bay and Vancouver, nearly double the 93,272 MT shipped the same month last year. This lifts clearances through reporting terminals to 1.338 million MT in the nine months spanning August through April, improving on the single season record for field pea clearances, which was initially broken in January. With the opening of navigation on the Great Lakes, most of the focus in April was on Thunder Bay, with feed pea shipments to Spain dominating clearances at the port.
