Saskatchewan Seeds 3% of CropREGINA - May 1/06 - SNS -- May is starting with a slightly above average progress plating this year's crops, according to the crop progress report from Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food. So far 3% of all crops have been planted in the province, one point better than the previous five-year average. However, to bring that into perspective, it is important to recall progress is identical to last year and half of what was sown by start of May in 2004. The provincial agriculture department says 13% of the crop is now planted in the southwest, 2% is planted in the southeast, and less than 0.5% is planted elsewhere in the province. Topsoil moisture conditions are reported as adequate across the majority of the grainbelt. While areas of surplus moisture are slowly decreasing, the northeast and east central regions still report more than 50% of the land suffering from surplus moisture.
