Lower World Chickpea Supply ExpectedWINNIPEG - Aug 19/02 - STAT -- There are good reasons to believe world supplies of chickpeas will decrease across the 2002-03 marketing year as world production eases but demand remains mostly unchanged, believes Agriculture Canada's senior pulse crop market analyst Stan Skrypetz. In a recent analysis of the current situation facing the crop he predicted world production would reach 7.52 million metric tons (MT) his season, down from last season's 7.88 million MT harvest, but above the 6.265 million MT produced during the 2000-01 marketing campaign.
